Appleby Frodingham and Winterton Rangers played out the annual Gerry Spencer Memorial Trophy on Tuesday night. It was the hosts this time who won the trophy thanks to a penalty shoot-out win over Rangers.
First Team manager Scott Hellewell gives us his thoughts on the latest pre season performance.
Tuesday nights performance was nowhere near what we expect, first half we was all over them and could have been 6 up after 15 minutes but the second half was horrific and we got outplayed. Players simply weren’t doing the bare minimum of what we expect.
It’s certainly a wake up call but I have no doubt our strongest team would have been fine, like I said earlier on in pre season the first two games we will try new players and try other things and we always planned to use big squads so we don’t ruin players until the cob webs are blown off.
For the next 4 games the squad won’t be as big and we will use players we want to go into the season with. One thing I will say is players have impressed the first two games and as the games go on you start to make your mind up for who will be in the first starting eleven. Currently there is going to be a fair few upset players so I expect to see some reactions these new few games.
Next Fixture | You can see Rangers in action this Friday night at West Street against local rivals Barton Town with a 7.30pm kick off.
