Winterton Rangers got off to the perfect start this pre-season as we comfortably ran out 0-5 winners in our opening pre-season fixture.
Goals from Elliott Broughton, Gaz Barlow and a Luke Anderson hat-trick confirmed the win in a game which manager Scott Hellewell used all the squad.
Scott Hellewell comments after the game:
Overall a pleasing performance for a first friendly, you could see Epworth were up for the game but we was the dominant side throughout. It was good to get minutes into the players and blow the cobwebs off. First half we struggled to get the ball down as much as we would have liked but Epworth didn’t give us a minute.
Second half we made 9 changes and the fresh legs helped us, we kept the ball better and they couldn’t live with Luke Anderson’s pace.
Competition for places is high, we had 20 players there tonight and still have a few away so it’s vital the lads impress from the off. We got the work rate we required and it was a good win, the new lads didn’t look out of place at all and seem to have jelled well already. We train Saturday before we play App Frod on Tuesday night where we will look to do the same again and give lads 45 minutes each.
Finally, good luck to my mate Scott Barlow and all at Epworth. I really hope they do well this season, he has a good team down there and the new ground has a lot of potential.
