After training on Thursday night we caught up with Manager Scott Hellewell for his thoughts on how pre season is going so far ahead of our first couple of friendly fixtures coming up away at Epworth & App Frod.
How is pre season training going so far?
Training has been going really well, we have varied it up each session and the lads have put the effort in so credit to them. We have had good numbers to all three sessions which is pleasing and plenty of new faces.
Who has impressed you the most?
I would say all the squad have impressed us so far, like I say the effort has been impressive and the majority have come back in good shape, the most pleasing thing to see is how the new lads have fitted straight in.
How do you feel the squad is looking so far?
The squad is coming along nicely we had some targets in mind and managed to get a few in but miss out on others, then some lads have come in what have surprised us. We certainly are in a better position than we was last pre season and we look stronger than last season already with still some more lads to come down.
Any more players in the pipeline?
We have a few lads training with us who will be given chances to impress in the pre season games and we have a couple more coming later in pre season.
What are you looking for from the first two pre-season games?
The first 2 games we will be going with a big squad and giving players 45 minutes each, it’s a chance for players to show what they are capable of and it’s a clean slate for everyone. I fully expect to see performances straight away as competition for places is going to be high which is something we needed after last season.
How will having a local Winterton player in the team (Gaz Barlow) help impact the club off the pitch?
Gaz signing will give us a big boost, his goal scoring record speaks for itself and you can see his finishing ability in training, the last few years he has been playing centre back as well so he gives us good options. Also it’s a local lad playing for his local side so hopefully it might encourage a few more people to come through the gate.
