Winterton Rangers manager, Scott Hellewell, reviews Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup result and performance as Rangers beat local rivals Grimsby Borough.
“Looking back on Saturdays game I think it shows how far we have come as a team, not just the result but our football brains, we seemed to mature as a team.
We didn’t get involved when tempers flared up and kept our cool, it was also nice to see us appeal a decision as a team not just one player.
As for the result, obviously it’s a very pleasing one to beat your local rivals and a team what turned us over on 3 occasions last season, but I still think we have a lot more to give as they caused us problems first half with there movement and the way they played. Although no-one had a bad game I definitely think there is room for improvement, our standards are very high this season and to be capable of achieving what we want, we have to keep asking for more.
It was also nice to give the club something back, we have people behind the scenes who do everything for the club so to put over £2k back into the club for winning a game goes a long way.
We now have the Skegness game on Tuesday which is another tough game but we should go there in full confidence after Saturday.
The next round of the FA cup is only a few weeks away and luckily we have been drawn at home against Kirby Muxloe who are the same standard as us. They are unknown to us and likewise we will be to them but we will just concentrate on ourselves, as I’ve said before myself, Grimesy and JT fully back our players in every game no matter who it’s against.”
