Saturday 3rd August 2019: 15:00 Kick Off at The Hammond Homes Stadium
Rangers have had a successful pre-season, with the team building some good fitness and forming mainly around the same spine of last season’s squad. We have seen some good performances, and some promising cameos for the season ahead. The management team have added strength in every area of the pitch as Rangers will look to get their season off to winning ways on Saturday with the visit of Glasshoughton Welfare to the newly named Hammond Homes Stadium.
Ex-Rangers manager, Rob Watson, was briefly with Welfare in pre-season, before leaving to coach Worksop. It will be interesting if they use any insider knowledge they may have gained against Rangers on Saturday. The starting eleven looks nailed on, with one of the interesting developments from the last friendly, being Elliot Broughton starting at left back in place of Robbie Start. Robbie replaced Elliot at halftime, so only Scott & Paul know their starting lineup at this point.
Glasshoughton finished 11th last season after finishing 6th the previous season. They are always a solid team to play, and being located in Castleford, it gives them large population areas to recruit from. Ranger’s fans will not want to see their keeper from last season making a reappearance in their team. He was superb in last season’s away fixture, and was certainly the best keeper Rangers faced last season.
Most football fans love scanning the results of the other matches in the league at the start of the season. It is always interesting to see which teams are going to be the ones to watch, and if it is the usual suspects or if there are any surprises. Non-league clubs tend to vary from season to season more than in the top flight, so there are bound to be some surprises this season.
Interesting matches in the NCEL this weekend away from The Hammond Homes Stadium, are Brigg hosting East Hull and the massive game between two of the League’s big hitters, North Ferriby versus Hallam.
