Winterton Rangers closed the gap on Division One leaders Campion to a single point after a 4-3 win at lowly Armthorpe Welfare.
It looked like it was going to be a walk in the park for Rangers as two goals inside the opening 14 minutes from Paul Grimes and Adam Lee got them off to a flier, but they had to wait until the second half before adding to the score through Luke Anderson.
Tyla Bell made it four near the end when he converted a penalty, but at that point, the game changed and Welfare found the net three times in the final four minutes through Thomas Finley, Liam Radford and Luke Williams, prompting Rangers Manager Scott Hellewell to vent his frustration.
“The last 5 or 10 minutes of the game has made it feel like a defeat. I was really pleased with the first 80 minutes as we looked very dangerous going forward and defended ok. The last 10 minutes was shocking, we made basic stupid decisions. 4-1 wouldn’t have been the end of the world but to go and concede two more the way we did is not something we will accept.
“The only positive is now we’ve done that, we shouldn’t do it again. We have plenty of leaders out there who know when we need to sit in and be compact.” Ending on a more positive note, Scott added “The main thing is we got the 3 points and the way we played in the first 80 minutes. We’ll train in the week and get ready for a tough test at Dronfield next week.”
