Latest NewsMatch Review | Broughton bags late winner for Rangers

August 14, 2019

Winterton Rangers made it two wins in two league games thanks to a late Elliott Broughton goal secured all 3 points with a 1-0 away win at Skegness Town.

In an even and at times frantic first half both teams were unlucky not to score, Rangers hitting the bar and Skegness creating clear goalscoring opportunities. With the scoreline blank at half time it was anyone’s game.

The second half continued pretty much as the first half did, Skegness being the home side put a lot of pressure on the Rangers defence however we once again stood firm and held them out. A sign of strong mentality was evident and sticking to the game plan which in the end was executed perfectly.

As both sides pushed for a winner, it fell to Elliott Broughton who finished a great flowing move to secure the win in the 86th minute. What followed was most notably frustration as Skegness had a man sent off in the closing minutes for a bad challenge on Callum Foster.

Rangers did well to hold on to the win and the delight of the traveling Rangers fans. A second cleansheet in the league for Nathan Popple and a third consecutive win in all competitions so far this season.
