Winterton Rangers finished the 2018/19 season in 4th place in the NCEL Division 1 after a final day defeat away at FC Bolsover.
With very little riding on the game for Rangers it was a much changed side that took the field to end the campaign, after a fantastic season which has ultimately set the benchmark for future success it was a low key performance and result in terrible conditions.
With the weather playing havoc it was safe to say football played in the right way was not going to be on show throughout the final 90 minutes of the season.
As both teams looked to end the season on a high note it was the home team which got the decisive goal pretty much straight away from the restart of the second half, a speculative shot with an assist from the wind found the top corner, the hosts looked to preserve this lead and prevent a Rangers fightback.
In the closing minutes a bizarre decision from the referee sparked a melee of players and a red card for the home team Rangers just couldn’t find an equaliser and ended the season on a losing note.
A positive note which will is certainly something to be proud of throughout the whole campaign is that Winterton Rangers finished with the best defensive record as only 38 goals where conceded throughout the 38 games this season.
Now attention turns to a big summer period and building both on and off the pitch ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.
