Winterton Rangers recent unbeaten run came to an end away at AFC Emley this afternoon with a 2-1 defeat.
An early goal from Callum Foster gave Rangers the perfect start in what was always going to be a tough away game in challenging conditions.
The turning point came shortly before half time when a bizarre and contentious refereeing decision changed the game, a red card shown to Rangers top scorer Luke Anderson for an alleged stamp confused both sides heading into the half time break.
With 10 men and heading into the strong wind it was going to be a tough 45 minutes to hang on, the lead didn’t last long as Emley equalised and then found a winner with a scrappy goal to complete the comeback. Winterton never gave up but in the end couldn’t force an equaliser themselves which leaves the league table wide open heading into the final 8 games of the season.
Next up is another huge away game as we travel to promotion rivals Nostell Miners Welfare on Saturday 16th March.
