Winterton Rangers can now announce our first two pre-season friendly games scheduled for early July.
Game 1: Thursday 4th July – Epworth FC (Away)
Game 2: Friday 12th July – Barton Town (Home) 7.30pm Kick Off
We start our preparation for the 2019/20 season and pre-season games with a trip to Epworth FC before our first Home friendly at West Street against local rivals Barton Town on Friday 12th July.
Manager, Scott Hellewell gives his thoughts on the opening two friendlies:
The first few games of pre-season are all about fitness, trying things out, trying to form new partnerships and seeing what new players are like. It’s a pre-season schedule what is going to be testing which is exactly what myself, Paul and Jon wanted. We will set out to win every game we play in as winning breeds confidence and we were very much a confidence team last season.
The first game against Epworth will hopefully be at there new ground, me and Scott Barlow go way back and helped each other out last season with players which I’m very grateful for as the lads we used came in and were class for us. We have a link between the clubs and he knows I’ll help him out as much as I can with players if he needs anyone. They have some very good players so it’s not a game we will take lightly but it’s the first game of pre-season so we will be looking to give players a half each and slowly build fitness levels up.
The next game is our first home game and it’s a local derby, I guess you could say bragging rights are up for grabs and as much as it’s only a friendly I’m sure Dave will have them fired up to put one over us, again it’s early on so we will be using the whole squad and be trying new things and it will be a very good test as I know they will be pushing to go up next season. Dave and Pete are very ambitious and as it’s where I began my career I hope they have a successful season.
