Winterton Rangers FA Vase cup run is over for the 2018/19 season after Irlam FC capitalize on Rangers missed chances to take a 0-2 result in the rearranged fixture at West Street.
With the game evenly poised 0-0 at the break, it was Irlam which struck first with a penalty on 49mins after Rangers goalkeeper brought down the onrushing Irlam forward. With Rangers looking to chase the equaliser and stay in the game we always looked likely to be caught on the break away, however it was Winterton who came back stronger but just couldn’t find that goal to keep us in the game.
The best chance to equalise came from a clear header from Liam Nelthorpe which went inches wide of the goal. A game changing moment as from the resulting goalkick Irlam went route 1 and finished off in clinical fashion to take a two goal lead into the final 20 minutes.
It was clear to see that Winterton Rangers frustrations began to show, with two red cards in the space of a few minutes left us with 9 men we did well to keep the score at 0-2 at full time.
Attention now turns to Wednesday nights Lincolnshire Senior Trophy fixture away at Grimsby Borough followed by an away NCEL Division 1 league game away at Swallownest next Saturday.
