Latest NewsSeason Review | Directors season review & plans for the future

May 3, 2019

The final season review for the 2018/19 campaign falls to the Football Directors at Winterton Rangers, read the thoughts from Chairman & CEO and also the plans to take the football club forwards both on and off the pitch.

Wayne Turtle: Football Chairman Well here we are again another season draws to a close it only seems like 5 minutes since we we’re kicking off back in August when we started on the 10 game unbeaten run.

As chairman on the whole I can be nothing other than pleased with the way the season has gone, a season that like most seasons had it’s highs and also it’s lows but as a unit everyone involved pulled together and endured those times, it’s now 5 years since going through the experience of dropping from the premier league into the first division where we have had to steady the ship and start rebuilding and the league positions in those five seasons tell a story. From being a bottom 4 team to finishing 4th from the top this term we are well and truly on the way back. In previous years fourth spot would have given us a play off spot and I would have fancied us against anyone to take the playoff promotion reward. However due to the FA League restructuring it’s not to be so we now look to next season. In Scott, Paul and Jon and hopefully the majority of last seasons playing squad with the addition of one or two I firmly believe we have all the right ingredients to go on and win the league.

Things off the field are also looking in good shape now with Richard successfully heading up the football section in particular driving the media, sponsorship and commercial elements forward and long may it continue.

Finally from the Chair I would like to thank everyone involved with the club, the majority of which are volunteers, no matter how big or small their involvement it is always very much appreciated and the club couldn’t run without you. To the players and Management thank you and well done on a fantastic season and a special thanks to the fans for your ever loyal support.

Stay safe enjoy the summer break and hopefully see you all again next season.

Richard Smales: Director & CEO Since joining the club just after the season had started it has been a fantastic experience and a huge thank you to all involved at Winterton Rangers for the support and assistance offered along the way. Winterton Rangers is a fantastic club with so much potential, a testament to the hard work put in over the years by the Directors to develop the facilities we have available. We now need to match this on the pitch and take the club to a level of football which matches the high standard West Street offers, a long term plan is being drawn up currently behind the scenes and if successful it’s going to be an exciting journey for the club and fans.

Another thank you to all the players and coaching staff who have been fantastic over the last 9 months, the season has had it’s ups and downs as all clubs experience throughout a season. The highs of the FA Vase run to defeats at places we shouldn’t really have lost games. We have certainly put the club in a strong position to kick on and progress, securing FA Cup football was essential and a top 4 finish cannot be something to grumble about.

Promotion would have been an amazing end to an exciting season however it was always going to be extremely tough given only the top team goes up. We have now set the benchmark and the club will be setting our standards high, our aims high and ambitions high moving forwards, a culture change at the club is something we will work hard on over the summer as we need everyone buying into our aims to take the club forwards both on and off the pitch.

We had a tough decision to make mid-way through the season and credit to the players for trusting the boards decisions which are always made with the clubs best interests to progress up the football pyramid. We have a strong unit of players and the key now is to keep hold of what we have and add quality not quantity. An exciting task for Scott, Paul & JT to work on and the board will be looking to offer the best possible budget to hopefully bring some silverware back to West Street at the end of 2019/20 season.

I must thank all of our sponsors who have continued to support the club financially this season, sponsorship is the lifeblood of clubs at our level and we wouldn’t be in the position we are without your financial support. The hard work begins now to attract new sponsors and partnerships to build our commercial portfolio.

A final thank you goes to all who have attended our fixtures (home and away) this season, it’s great to see our attendances grow week by week to regularly have 100+ for the last few home games – an increase from the 60/70 which was watching at the start of the season. I look forward to seeing you again in August and if we can see some further new and returning faces throughout next season we know we are going in the right direction.

Enjoy your summer, the hard work begins now behind the scenes. See you all in August
